Tahini Dip (White and Green) Recipe

By Itamar Kaplun

Tahini is an easy Israeli dip everyone loves, this can be creamy, liquidy, or chunky. This dip goes great in sandwiches, with chips or crackers, and veggies. We make this at my house all the time and it always makes the meal so much better. If you recall in the last recipe (Challah Bread) I wrote that Challah is great with this dip. So make both recipes and try for yourself!!

Ingredients:

White and Green Tahini:

-Half cup of Tahini Paste.

-One juicy lemon, around 4 tablespoons.

-¼ cup of water.

-Salt, added by taste.

Only Green Tahini:

-A bundle of Parsley

-1 big garlic clove

Tools:

  • Blender (all will do, but preferably a Vitamix to achieve a creamy finish)

  • A few spoons

  • Measuring spoons

    -Bowl

Instructions

White Tahini:

  1. Mix all the ingredients in a blender except the cilantro, taste, and add seasoning to your tastebuds want. Something great to know is the Tahini if covered can last in your refrigerator for around 4 days.

Green Tahini:

  1. Now you will mix every ingredient including the parsley, and follow the same directions you would use for the White Tahini

Scones

By Franna HawksWorth

There are tons of things that you see at the bakery that you love but can’t get now. One of those things is scones! Scones are super delicious and surprisingly easy to make. With scones you can experiment with different things for example, you can have an orange tasting scone that has orange zest or a chocolate chip scone. With this recipe you won’t have to go to the bakery to enjoy this delicious dessert!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cake flour, more as needed

  • ½ tsp salt

  • 2 tsp baking powder

  • 3 tbsp sugar

  • 5 tbsp cold butter, cut into pieces

  • 1 egg

  • ½ to ¾ cup heavy cream, more for brushing

Step 1:

Heat the oven to 450 degrees. Put the flour, salt, baking powder and 2 tbsp of the sugar in a food processor and pulse to combine. Add the butter and pulse until the mixture resembles cornmeal.

Step 2:

Add the egg and just enough cream to form a slightly sticky dough. Then add your chocolate chips, orange zest or whatever you want to add. If it's too sticky, add a little flour, but very little; it should still stick a little to your hands.

Step 3:

Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead once or twice, then press it into a ¾ inch thick circle and cut into 2 inch rounds with a biscuit cutter or glass. Put the rounds on an ungreased baking sheet. Gently reshape the leftover dough and cut again. Brush the top of each scone with a bit of cream and sprinkle with a little of the remaining sugar.

Step 4:

Bake for 9 to 11 minutes, or until the scones are a beautiful golden brown. Enjoy!

Smoothies

Smoothies are perfect for a hot summer day with their refreshing taste. Smoothies are fun because you can come up with the recipes on your own and be really creative about them. You can also make them with your friends and family. My brother and I like to have competitions as to who makes the best smoothies which is also fun.

Here are some tips for smoothies:

  • If you have fruit in your smoothie, make sure to put in almond butter

  • If you want to have a coconut flavour add coconut shavings and coconut oil/butter

  • Vanilla also tastes good so for a vanilla flavour add a bit of vanilla extract

  • I would try and have a 1:1 ratio for the fruit

Fruit combinations that are good:

  • Banana + Strawberry

  • Banana + Blueberry

  • Strawberry + Blueberry

  • Banana + Blueberry + Strawberry

  • Pineapple + Banana

  • Mango + Peach

  • All of these fruits are good by themselves as well
