Apps Worth Downloading

By: Maria Iodice

Many people are searching through the app store, trying to find something new to download. This article will make that task a lot simpler by showing you some awesome apps that you can enjoy!

1.Picture This

Calling all nature-lovers! If you want to know more about the different types of plants, this is the app for you! Picture This let’s you take a picture of any plant and it immediately identifies it for you. The app tells you your plant’s description, how it got its name, some interesting facts, and what it symbolizes. It also says some of its uses, its scientific classification, as well as tips on how to maintain it, and a “care guide”. You can share all this with anyone in your contacts by clicking the “Share with Friends” button. You can also add plants to the “Your Garden” section, so you can have a detailed representation of your garden. Picture This also provides articles on plants in general. If you would like, you can post your plant (or rather its picture) to the “Community” section of the app where everyone who has Picture This downloaded can see your picture and like or comment. Once you download it, the app gives a nickname (for example: Enthusiastic Lucerne, Romantic Daffodil, Luxuriant Rose) so your true identity is not revealed. Go crazy with the wide variety of plants in the community section, and the awesome information you get when you take a picture of your plant!

Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery

Harry potter lovers, get ready to fall in love with this enchanting game! Create your avatar, learn spells, play quidditch, forge friendships, experience potions, charms, and much more! Unlock new locations, spells, and potions as you advance. Win the House Cup, investigate mysteries, conjure your patronus, and befriend magical creatures! (The niffler is my all time favorite). This game is totally free, but you can make in-app purchases to get things like dormitory decorations, more energy, and pets. You can get many of these things with gold coins, which you earn by completing various quests and classes. Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery gives you multiple options so you can build your own adventure and make your own choices. You complete tasks by using energy, and one energy recharges every 4 minutes. Here’s a little tip to get you started: If Snape tells you that you can recover the house points you lost by bringing him something from the potions storeroom, DON’T GO ALONE. This may not make sense now, but it will when you start playing!

Libby

If reading is your jam, then libby is definitely the app for you! You can link your library card to Libby by typing in your card number. Once you do so, Libby opens up all the books available in your library to you! You can search for books and, if the library has it, you can read a sample, place that book on hold, tag it with a thumbs up or down symbol, and (once it’s available) read it. If you select the option that you read with a Kindle, the app will automatically add the book you “checked out” to your Kindle. You can also borrow audio books. Libby is particularly useful now that the library is closed. Have fun reading!

Hopefully, you will download some of these apps and have fun with them! Now that we are in quarantine, finding new hobbies like plants and reading are great! I hope these apps have helped to make your life a little bit more enjoyable! Have fun!
