Chalk from the Heart
Chalk Art from the Heart
by Morgan Tobin
A simple walk down Sagamore road in the Wyoming district, families, as well as people, all trying to get out of the house during the quarantine. This might seem normal, but if you take a look around, you will notice beautiful words of hope and inspiration displayed with intricate designs and colors, all in chalk. These alluring pieces of art have become the highlight for some families that are stuck inside all day doing work, and have made Sagamore road a bustling, beautiful place to take a nice stroll. But where did these beautiful designs come from? Well, I had a chance to talk to one of the artists in the family that made them, Lindsay Palumbo.
Palumbo told me that one day, a friend had stopped by to share a nice exchange of inspiring words with them, and that made her think. Palumbo’s daughter had come home one day with the idea of doing chalk art on the side of the road, and so the family got to work. Palumbo said that she was happy that people could walk by and see the words that had inspired her, and so they continued, finding influential quotes to help people get through these hard times. What is even more amazing is the development of chalk drawings around our Wyoming district, this just goes to show how many people have been motivated by these drawings. When I told Palumbo of this she how she was thrilled about what has happened and encourages everyone to enjoy some chalk art as well! This pass time allows people to have fun and helps all of us get through these adversities, so keep your eyes out, because maybe you might even have one next door tomorrow! We are all in this together, so unleash your inner artist, and make some chalk art yourself!
