Easy Quarantine Recipes!

By Franna Hawksworth

In quarantine, you have a lot of time on your hands. One way you can spend that time is with cooking! These best quarantine recipes have easy to find ingredients yet something you don’t usually take the time to do.

One of the first recipes that I find fun to do in quarantine is guacamole. Guacamole can take some time to make, with ingredients that you would usually have around and it is SO good. Some people may think making guacamole is quick, but that might be because you put it in a blender. DO NOT put the avocados in a blender when making guacamole. Guacamole isn’t nearly as good as it should be when it’s very creamy. Instead, mash the avocados with a fork, but not too much. Make sure it still has chunks in it by the time you’re done. When making guacamole, I recommend ingredients such a baby onion, some tomatoes, cilantro, lime juice, and a few pinches of salt.

Another great thing to make in quarantine is ice cream. It's okay if you don’t have an ice cream machine, there are plenty of recipes for ice cream that don’t require an ice cream maker. Ice cream is a great treat to make because it is actually very easy, but with churning or freezing it takes up time. Luckily, time is something we have a lot of while in quarantine. Making ice cream is really fun and you can experiment with different flavors. For example, if you’ve made ice cream before you’ve probably made a simple flavor like chocolate, but now in quarantine you can make different, creative flavors like cheesecake raspberry. Ice cream also tastes way better homemade!

The last recipe is  homemade bread, made without a bread machine. This can take awhile and it has ingredients that can be easy to find. You only need bread flour, yeast, salt and water. Bread can be made very easily. You first just mix the ingredients, knead the bread, let the bread rise in a bowl, fold the bread over itself to get the air out, let it rise again and then bake. If you can’t find yeast then sour dough is a go-to. It's the same thing,  just with sourdough starter instead of yeast. The way you make a starter is by adding flour and water, then just letting it sit for a week or so. These recipes are a lot of fun to make, so try them yourself!
